AI agents invent their own language: risks and solutions

AI agents are increasingly developing their own, often incomprehensible language in order to communicate more efficiently. This development raises questions about why they do this and what problems arise from it. The ability of AI systems to develop an independent form of communication is a sign of their complexity and adaptability. However, this leads to a distancing of human control and understanding, which can potentially lead to misunderstandings or unwanted results.

The reasons for this language development are efficiency: AI agents optimize their communication paths in order to save resources and make decisions faster. However, this creates a barrier for human users who are unable to decipher the language of AI. This can lead to misinterpretation, lack of transparency and lack of control, which is particularly problematic in critical use cases such as security or decision making.

The risks associated with AI agents developing their own language range from security concerns to ethical challenges. In an open letter, a group of leading mathematicians warns of existential AI risks, as leading AI models can solve difficult research questions in a very short time – which could potentially be used for cyber and biological weapons. In addition, internal Microsoft documentation shows that even managers view AI training as a huge theft, indicating the importance of control and transparency.

The challenge is to design AI systems so that they work efficiently, but at the same time remain understandable and controllable. One approach to this is the structuring of prompts and the division of complex tasks into prompt chains, as discussed in a webinar. The focus is on context engineering to define the boundary between controlled chains and agentic AI systems.

In this context, xynap’s AI modules can play a role in controlling and controlling such language developments. The AI modules in xynap enable greater security and efficiency by structuring and keeping communication between humans and AI comprehensible.
