AI agents in container security: practical experience and security impulses

AI agents are now a central part of modern IT security strategy, especially in the context of container technology. In practice, both advantages and challenges arise when AI systems are used to automate security processes. One example of this is Red Hat’s Hummingbird project, which uses AI agents to automate container security. The safety of containers is increased by continuous monitoring and anomaly detection. Nevertheless, human influence remains essential, especially when assessing risks and making decisions in the event of security incidents. The integration of AI into the security architecture enables a proactive and reactive security strategy based on data and algorithms. At the same time, such approaches underline that AI is not the only solution, but a tool that must be integrated into the right context.

Using local AI models as described in the iX workshop can significantly increase the efficiency of workflows. Local models enable greater control over the data and reduce dependencies on external cloud services. This is particularly relevant in today’s IT landscape, where data protection and data security are increasingly coming into focus. However, integrating such models into existing systems requires careful planning and a clear definition of use cases. A good example of this is the automation of processes in which AI models make decisions in real time while ensuring transparency and traceability.

The development of AI security institutes, such as the institute planned in Berlin, underlines the growing importance of AI in security policy. With this step, Germany is focusing on a controlled and responsible development of AI technologies. Such institutes serve to ensure the security and transparency of AI systems, especially in critical use cases. The creation of such institutions is a sign that society is becoming aware that AI can be not only a tool of efficiency, but also a risk factor. Ensuring the controllability of AI systems is therefore a central aspect of the future of technology.

In education, the importance of AI and digitalization is increasingly being perceived. Hesse introduces the compulsory subject 'AI and Digital World' in order to anchor digital skills in schools. This project shows that the integration of AI into education is a central component of the future. By teaching the fundamentals of AI and digitalization, the next generation will be better prepared to deal with these technologies. At the same time, it also strengthens the need for a critical examination of AI systems and their impact on society.
