Data Loss Prevention: What is it and why is it important?

Data Loss Prevention, or DLP for short, is a method of protecting sensitive data such as personal data, trade secrets or financial information from loss or unauthorized access. In the digital age, this is especially important because data can easily be lost through human error, hacking or improper handling. DLP strategies help to minimize such risks while complying with legal requirements in data protection law, such as the GDPR.

How does Data Loss Prevention work?

DLP relies on a combination of technologies and processes. On the one hand, systems are used that monitor data in the network or in storage media. On the other hand, guidelines and procedures are defined that govern the behavior of employees and the use of systems. For example, DLP tools can automatically prevent sensitive data from being sent to external addresses by email or from being copied to external storage media.

AI and transparency in application processing

In Germany, there are studies that show how companies deal with AI systems when processing applications. Some companies transparently inform applicants about the use of AI, while others do not. This is a sign that AI systems in the company must not only be used technically, but also ethically and in compliance with data protection. AI-powered systems can help protect data, but they also need to be used transparently and responsibly.

## What does this mean for your company?

DLP is a central component of the data protection compliant IT strategy. It helps to protect sensitive data, minimize legal risks and increase trust among customers and partners. At the same time, it is important that AI systems are used transparently to respect users’ rights and build trust.

## How ISN/xynap supports this

xynap’s Infrastructure, AI and Files modules provide privacy-compliant infrastructure, AI-enabled security measures and secure file storage in line with DLP principles.
