AI Agents in Test: Potential and Limits of AI Productivity

AI technologies are increasingly integrated into everyday life, but how effective are they really? Some tests show that AI agents are promising in productivity technologies, while others show significant limitations. One example is Odysseus AI, an AI workplace that uses local language models to support email and calendars. A test showed how such systems can optimize daily work by automating communication and scheduling. However, it also shows that AI models are not so successful in other areas, such as autonomous money-making. In one experiment, AI agents were recruited to generate revenue on their own, but the results were disappointing: spam and unauthorized bills were generated instead. This underlines that while AI systems can be useful in certain applications, they do not yet have the necessary maturity in other areas. In Australia, there is even debate as to whether users should be given a choice as to whether algorithms should determine the social media feed. This reflects the growing importance of AI in our everyday lives and at the same time the need to critically consider its impact. Another example of human-AI interaction is an experiment in which a philosopher was interviewed by an AI via email. AI posed questions on topics such as the role of AI in science and the relationship between humans and machines. This project shows how AI can open up new perspectives not only in business contexts, but also in science and philosophy. Overall, the development of AI systems remains an exciting field that brings both potential and challenges. It is important to recognize the benefits of the technology, but also to consider the limitations and risks consciously.
